Target Information
The WNT gene family consists of structurally related genes encoding secreted signaling proteins. These proteins are involved in oncogenesis and various developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis.
WNT16 contains two transcript variants diverging at the 5′ termini, proposed to be products of separate promoters.
- Variant 2: Expressed mainly in the pancreas
- Variant 1: Expressed ubiquitously with highest levels in adult kidney, placenta, brain, heart, and spleen
WNT16 is also a ligand for members of the frizzled family of seven-transmembrane receptors.
