Target Information
Histones play a critical role in transcriptional regulation, cell cycle progression, and developmental processes. Histone acetylation and deacetylation modify chromosome structure and influence transcription factor accessibility to DNA. The protein encoded by the HDAC7 gene shares sequence homology with histone deacetylase family members and is orthologous to mouse HDAC7, which promotes repression via the transcriptional corepressor SMRT. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
