MCM7 (Mini-Chromosome Maintenance Complex Component 7)
MCM7 encodes a protein that is part of the highly conserved MCM family, essential for the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication. The MCM complex forms a hexameric structure that is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre-RC), involved in replication fork formation and recruitment of DNA replication-related proteins.
The MCM complex, including MCM2, MCM4, MCM6, and MCM7, possesses DNA helicase activity and functions as a DNA unwinding enzyme. Cyclin D1-dependent kinase CDK4 associates with MCM7 and may regulate its interaction with the tumor suppressor protein RB1/RB. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been reported.
