Target Information
The ERBB2 (neu/HER2) oncogene is a well-established predictor of patient outcome and therapeutic response in breast cancer. The C35 (C17orf37) gene is a novel tumor biomarker abundantly expressed in breast cancer. It is located on chromosome 17q12, approximately 505 nucleotides from the 3′ end of the ERBB2 oncogene, which is the antigenic target for trastuzumab (Herceptin) therapy. The genes encoding C35 and ERBB2 are arranged tail-to-tail, and the ORF37 open reading frame encodes a 12 kDa protein of unknown function.
