Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays a key role in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. CD36 recognizes and uptakes oxidized low-density lipoproteins, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. It also acts as a receptor for thrombospondin and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes. Mutations in CD36 can cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency, and it is associated with coronary heart disease.
