Target Information
CDK9 is a serine/threonine kinase which, when complexed with CyclinT1, forms an active holoenzyme complex that regulates the eukaryotic cell cycle. It is coexpressed and copurified with CyclinT1 and facilitates promoter recognition of transcription factors. CDK9 promotes RNA synthesis in genetic programs related to cell growth, differentiation, and viral pathogenesis. The CDK9/cyclin-K complex also phosphorylates the CTD of RNAPII and can substitute for CDK9/cyclin-T P-TEFb in vitro. Chronic activation of CDK9 leads to cardiac myocyte enlargement and predisposes to heart failure.
