MAP kinase(ERK)는 다양한 생화학 신호를 통합하는 역할을 하며, 본 단백질은 염증성 사이토카인 또는 환경적 스트레스에 반응하여 p38 MAP kinase를 인산화 및 활성화합니다.
이는 p38 MAP kinase 매개 신호전달 경로의 필수 구성 요소로서, 스트레스 유도 세포주기 정지, 전사 활성화, 세포사멸 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
Tissue specificity: Isoform 2는 골격근에서만 발현되며, Isoform 1은 골격근, 심장, 간 및 췌장에서 낮은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
