Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a 3′-exoribonuclease belonging to the RNase D family. It preferentially degrades poly(A) tails of mRNAs, initiating mRNA decay in eukaryotic cells.
This protein also participates in silencing of maternal mRNAs during oocyte maturation and early embryonic development, as well as in nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) of transcripts with premature stop codons.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
