Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with CD59 (Protectin), an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored extracellular glycoprotein expressed on all hematopoietic cells and widely present on cells in all tissues.
Functional Application: Activation
Target Information
CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC).
It regulates complement activity by binding C8 and/or C9 during MAC assembly, preventing excessive pore formation in cell membranes.
CD59 also interacts with the C5b-8 complex and serves as a low-affinity ligand for human CD2, contributing to T-cell costimulation and lymphocyte signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 can lead to CD59 deficiency, associated with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
