Target Information

This gene encodes a transcriptional regulator with bimodal DNA-binding specificity, binding to both methylated CGCG and non-methylated KAISO-binding site (TCCTGCNA).
The protein includes an N-terminal POZ/BTB domain and three C-terminal zinc finger motifs.
It recruits the N-CoR repressor complex to promote histone deacetylation and formation of repressive chromatin structures in target gene promoters.
Kaiso may contribute to repression of Wnt signaling pathway target genes and can activate transcription of certain genes via catenin delta-2 (CTNND2) recruitment.
Interaction with catenin delta-1 (CTNND1) inhibits DNA binding.
It also interacts directly with Importin-alpha 2 (karyopherin alpha2), mediating nuclear import.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
