Target Information
This gene encodes a transcriptional regulator with bimodal DNA-binding specificity, binding to methylated CGCG and the non-methylated consensus KAISO-binding site TCCTGCNA.
The protein contains an N-terminal POZ/BTB domain and three C-terminal zinc finger motifs. It recruits the N-CoR repressor complex to promote histone deacetylation and repressive chromatin formation in target gene promoters.
It may repress Wnt signaling pathway target genes and activate transcription of a subset of genes via catenin delta-2 (CTNND2) recruitment. Interaction with catenin delta-1 (CTNND1) inhibits DNA binding. It also interacts with Importin-alpha 2 (karyopherin alpha2), mediating nuclear import.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
