Product Specific Information
MA1-2001 detects beta-catenin from human samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an ~94 kDa protein representing beta-catenin from A431 cell extract.
MA1-2001 is also suitable for immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence assays.
The immunogen is a 120 kDa MBP/beta-catenin fusion protein purified via an amylose column.
Target Information
Beta-catenin is an adherens junction (AJ) protein involved in cell-cell adhesion and epithelial layer maintenance. It interacts with E-cadherin and alpha-catenin to link cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton.
Beta-catenin also associates with signaling complexes containing adenomatous polyposis coli protein and microtubules, participating in pathways involving tyrosine kinases, phosphatases, and Wnt/Wingless signaling.
It plays roles in morphogenesis and is expressed in various hair follicle and epithelial cells.
Pathologically, beta-catenin is implicated in pilomatrixoma, medulloblastoma, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, and other solid tumors.
In the nucleus, beta-catenin co-activates Lef/Tcf transcription factors, promoting expression of genes such as cyclin D and c-myc, which drive cell proliferation and tumorigenesis.
