Product Specific Information

MA1-2000 detects alpha catenin from human samples.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting an ~102 kDa protein representing alpha catenin from SCC-1 cell extract.
This antibody does not cross-react with mouse samples in Western blot.
MA1-2000 can also be used in immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence procedures.
The immunogen is a 90 kDa MBP/alpha catenin fusion protein purified via an amylose column.

Target Information

Alpha catenin is a member of the β-catenin family of cytosolic proteins.
It interacts with N-cadherin and β-catenin on the cytosolic side of adherens junctions to mediate the interaction with the actin cytoskeleton.
Alpha catenin forms a homodimer in solution but dissociates to form a 1:1 heterodimer with β-catenin to interact with cadherins.
It regulates morphological plasticity of synapses and cerebellar and hippocampal lamination during development, and functions in the control of startle modulation.
