Ly49A is a gene encoding a protein expressed on the surface of natural killer cells. It plays a role in recognizing and eliminating virally infected or cancerous cells. The gene is located on chromosome 6 and belongs to a family of similar receptor genes. Ly49A interacts with various ligands, including viruses and tumor cells, regulating NK cell activation and function. Genetic variations in Ly49A are associated with autoimmune disorders and cancer.
