Target Information
The protein encoded by the MCM3 gene is one of the highly conserved mini-chromosome maintenance proteins involved in the initiation of eukaryotic genome replication. The hexameric complex formed by MCM proteins is a key component of the pre-replication complex (pre_RC) and plays a role in replication fork formation and recruitment of other DNA replication-related proteins. MCM3 interacts directly with MCM5/CDC46 and is acetylated by MCM3AP, a chromatin-associated acetyltransferase. Acetylation inhibits DNA replication initiation and cell cycle progression.
