Target Information

Dyneins are multi-subunit, high molecular weight ATPases that interact with microtubules to generate force by converting ATP’s chemical energy into mechanical movement.
Cytoplasmic and axonemal dyneins consist of heavy, intermediate, light, and light-intermediate chains that function as minus end-directed motors, transporting cellular cargos toward the cell center.
Axonemal dyneins facilitate microtubule sliding within cilia and flagella, enabling motility.
Cytoplasmic dynein is a complex of approximately 12 subunits that performs essential functions such as organelle transport and centrosome assembly.
The carboxy-terminus of dynein is critical for microtubule-dependent motility and is highly conserved, while the amino-terminal regions are variable.
Dynein activity is regulated by proteins such as Dynactin, LIS1, and Nudel (NudE-like).
