AGO1 is a member of the Argonaute family of proteins that play a role in RNA interference. It contains PAZ and PIWI domains, may interact with Dicer1, and functions in short-interfering-RNA-mediated gene silencing. AGO1 binds to miRNAs or siRNAs and represses translation of mRNAs.
