Target Information
The HPCA gene encodes a neuron-specific calcium-binding protein found in the retina and brain.
This protein associates with the plasma membrane and shares similarity with photoreceptor cell proteins that regulate photosignal transduction in a calcium-sensitive manner.
It exhibits recoverin activity and calcium-dependent inhibition of rhodopsin kinase.
HPCA is identical in human, rat, and mouse, and plays an important role in central nervous system neurons across species.
