Target Information
SERPINA3 encodes Alpha 1-Antichymotrypsin (Alpha 1-ACT), an early-stage acute-phase plasma protein belonging to the serpin family. It preferentially inactivates chymotrypsin, cathepsin G, and chymase. Alpha-1-ACT is a serine protease inhibitor associated with amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease and aged human and monkey brains. Regulation of serine proteases and their inhibitors is important in neuromuscular differentiation. Prostate specific antigen (PSA), a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, is predominantly complexed to Alpha-1-ACT.
