Target Information
SERPINA3 encodes Alpha-1-Antichymotrypsin (Alpha 1-ACT), an early-stage acute-phase plasma protein and serine protease inhibitor.
It preferentially inactivates chymotrypsin, cathepsin G, and chymase.
Alpha-1-ACT is associated with amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease and aged brain tissue.
Regulation of serine proteases and their inhibitors plays a key role in neuromuscular differentiation.
Prostate-specific antigen (PSA), a chymotrypsin-like serine protease, is predominantly complexed with Alpha-1-ACT.
