Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, known to regulate programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their repressor activity. Its proapoptotic function is controlled via phosphorylation by kinases such as AKT and MAP kinase, and dephosphorylation by calcineurin. Alternative splicing yields two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
