The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% (by SDS-PAGE).

Target Information

Interleukin-18 binding protein (IL-18BP) is a constitutively secreted glycoprotein that acts as a natural antagonist for interleukin-18 (IL-18) by preventing its interaction with receptors. Through this binding, IL-18BP neutralizes the proinflammatory role of IL-18 in cell-mediated immune responses, resulting in reduced IFN-gamma production by T helper type I cells and inhibition of cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activity via enhanced NK cell cytotoxicity.

As an inhibitor of IL-18 and a key component of skin homeostasis, IL-18BP has been linked to diseases such as eczema, asthma, and Crohn’s disease. Upregulation of IL-18BP by keratinocytes expressing HPV E7 oncoprotein decreases IL-18-induced IFN-gamma production and T cell activation. Elevated IL-18 and IL-18BP levels, along with cytokines IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-8, are associated with chronic inflammation and observed in macrophages and intestinal tissues of Crohn’s disease patients.

IL-18BP is a member of the immunoglobulin-like receptor class and contains a single immunoglobulin (Ig) domain. Two of the four identified human isoforms (b and d) have incomplete domains, resulting in reduced binding affinity.
