CLOCK 유전자는 basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) 계열 전사인자에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다.
이 단백질의 다형성은 생체리듬 수면 장애와 관련이 있으며, 마우스의 유사 단백질은 aryl hydrocarbon receptor nuclear translocator-like 단백질과 이합체를 형성하여 period 1 유전자의 전사를 활성화하는 생체리듬 조절 전사인자로 작용합니다.
