Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein belonging to the pentraxin family, characterized by a pentameric organization. Members of this family share considerable sequence homology, likely due to gene duplication. The encoded protein binds to pathological amyloid cross-beta fold proteins, suggesting a possible chaperone role. It may also regulate chromatin degradation and bind to apoptotic cells at an early stage, indicating involvement in apoptotic cell clearance in vivo.
