STING (Stimulator of Interferon Genes)은 선천면역 신호전달의 핵심 구성요소로, NF-kappa-B 및 IRF3 전사경로를 활성화하여 type I interferon (IFN-α, IFN-β)의 발현을 유도하고 항바이러스 상태를 형성합니다. 또한 MHC-II 복합체와의 상호작용을 통해 세포 내 바이러스 RNA 및 B-form DNA를 감지하고, ERK 경로를 통한 세포사멸 신호 전달에도 관여합니다. 주로 소포체 막, 세포막, 미토콘드리아 외막에서 발현되며, 대부분의 조직에서 보편적으로 존재합니다.
