Target Information

Myc is a proto-oncogene encoding a nuclear phosphoprotein that regulates cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and cellular transformation. The protein forms a heterodimer with MAX, binding the E box DNA consensus sequence to regulate transcription of target genes.
Amplification of this gene is frequently observed in various human cancers. Translocations involving MYC are associated with Burkitt lymphoma and multiple myeloma.
Translation initiates from both an upstream non-AUG (CUG) and a downstream AUG start site, producing two isoforms with distinct N-termini.
