Target Information
The protein encoded by BAD is a member of the BCL-2 family, which regulates programmed cell death. BAD promotes apoptosis by forming heterodimers with BCL-xL and BCL-2, counteracting their anti-apoptotic functions. Its proapoptotic activity is controlled via phosphorylation, regulated by kinases such as AKT, MAP kinase, and phosphatase calcineurin. Alternative splicing produces two transcript variants encoding the same isoform.
