Target Information
DNA-PK is a heterotrimeric, DNA-dependent protein kinase that initiates signaling cascades in response to DNA damage. It is an atypical kinase related to PI3 kinases and can be inhibited by small molecules targeting PI3 kinases. DNA-PK encodes a component of the mediator complex, a transcriptional coactivator required for gene expression. The mediator complex is recruited by transcriptional activators or nuclear receptors to induce gene expression by interacting with RNA polymerase II and promoting pre-initiation complex formation. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms of DNA-PK have been identified.
