Target Information
PKD1 is involved in renal tubulogenesis and fluid-flow mechanosensation by the primary cilium in renal epithelium. It acts as a regulator of cilium length together with PKD2, contributing to mechanotransductive signaling regulation. The cilium length response forms a negative feedback loop where fluid shear-mediated deflection decreases intracellular cAMP, leading to cilium shortening and reduced flow-induced signaling. PKD1 may also function as an ion-channel regulator and participate in adhesive protein-protein and protein-carbohydrate interactions.
