Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
Prohibitin is encoded by an evolutionarily conserved gene that is ubiquitously expressed. It functions as a negative regulator of cell proliferation and may act as a tumor suppressor. Mutations in PHB have been associated with sporadic breast cancer.
Prohibitin is expressed as two transcripts differing in the length of the 3' untranslated region. The longer transcript is more abundant in proliferating tissues and cells, suggesting a regulatory role as a trans-acting RNA.
