Target Information
The Ras-related superfamily of guanine nucleotide binding proteins includes the R-Ras, Rap, Ral/Rec, and Rho/Rab subfamilies. Rab proteins are essential in endocytosis and biosynthetic protein transport, mediating movement of vesicles from the endoplasmic reticulum through the Golgi complex to secretory vesicles.
Rab23 (also known as HSPC137) is a 237 amino acid protein localized to the cytoplasmic side of the cell membrane. It is involved in intracellular protein transportation and small GTPase-mediated signal transduction.
Mutations in the RAB23 gene are associated with Carpenter syndrome (ACPS2), characterized by obesity, cardiac defects, polysyndactyly, and craniosynostosis.
