Target Information

Ephrin receptors and their ligands, the ephrins, mediate numerous developmental processes, particularly in the nervous system.
Based on their structures and sequence relationships, ephrins are divided into two classes:

• Ephrin-A (EFNA): Anchored to the membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol linkage
• Ephrin-B (EFNB): Transmembrane proteins

The Eph family of receptors are divided into two groups based on extracellular domain sequence similarity and ligand-binding affinity. Ephrin receptors form the largest subgroup of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs).
The Ephrin receptor encoded by this gene lacks kinase activity typical of most RTKs and binds to ephrin-B ligands.
