Target Information
The CCL16 gene is part of a cytokine gene cluster on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Cytokines are secreted proteins that play roles in immune regulation and inflammation. CC cytokines are characterized by two adjacent cysteines. CCL16 has chemotactic activity for lymphocytes and monocytes, but not for neutrophils. It also exhibits potent myelosuppressive activity, suppressing proliferation of myeloid progenitor cells. Expression of this gene is upregulated by IL-10.
