This antibody targets a protein with a predicted molecular weight of 312 kDa. It is suitable for Western blot analysis only if immunoprecipitation (IP) is performed first.


Target Information

14-3-3 sigma (also known as stratifin, SFN, epithelial cell marker protein 1) belongs to a conserved family of 14-3-3 proteins found in all eukaryotes. There are seven known mammalian isoforms (epsilon, beta, zeta, gamma, theta, tau, sigma) that regulate numerous biological processes by modulating localization and stability of signaling molecules.
14-3-3 sigma was initially identified as a mammary epithelium marker and later recognized as a key regulator of cell cycle checkpoints. It has been implicated as a prognostic marker in pancreatic cancer and is the only isoform induced by p53 in response to DNA damage. Acting as a p53-regulated inhibitor of G2/M progression, it functions as a tumor suppressor gene that can be inactivated by methylation in epithelial tumors. Two isoforms of human 14-3-3 sigma are produced via alternative splicing.
