Target Information
The protein encoded by the CDKN2C gene is a member of the INK4 family of cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors.
It interacts with CDK4 or CDK6 to prevent kinase activation, functioning as a regulator of cell cycle G1 progression.
Ectopic expression suppresses human cell growth in correlation with wild-type RB1 function.
Knockout mouse studies indicate roles in spermatogenesis regulation and tumor suppression.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding the same protein have been reported.
