Target Information
The Toll-like receptor (TLR) family in mammals comprises a group of transmembrane proteins characterized by multiple leucine-rich repeats in the extracellular domain and an IL-1 receptor motif in the cytoplasmic domain.
TLRs are phylogenetically conserved mediators of innate immunity essential for microbial recognition.
TLR11 specifically responds to uropathogenic bacteria rather than known TLR ligands.
TLR11-deficient mice are highly susceptible to kidney infections by uropathogenic bacteria, suggesting that TLR11 plays a protective role in preventing infections in the urogenital system.
