Target Information
CD20 is a non-glycosylated surface phosphoprotein with a molecular weight range of 33–37 kDa depending on phosphorylation. It is expressed on mature and most malignant B cells, a subpopulation of T lymphocytes, and follicular dendritic cells. CD20 expression is synchronous with surface IgM and regulates calcium conductance, cell cycle progression, and B-cell proliferation.
It is associated with lipid rafts, and its interaction with BCR (B cell antigen receptor) changes upon extracellular triggering. CD20 remains at the cell surface after BCR endocytosis, making it a useful target for antibody-mediated B-cell depletion.
Diseases associated with CD20 dysfunction include Ms4a1-related common variable immune deficiency.
