Target Information
HVCN1 (hydrogen voltage-gated channel 1) is a voltage-gated proton channel protein highly expressed in immune tissues.
It mediates proton conductance required by phagocytic leukocytes for the oxidative burst that underlies microbial killing.
HVCN1 moderates voltage-dependent proton permeability of excitable membranes, allowing proton flow according to their electrochemical gradient.
It is sensitive to zinc ions and can be inhibited by them.
HVCN1 may represent a new therapeutic target for B cell malignancies involving continued signaling via the B cell antigen receptor.
