Target Information

Alpha 2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is an approximately 720-kDa homotetrameric glycoprotein composed of four identical ~180 kDa subunits.
A2M shares structural and functional similarities with other alpha-macroglobulins such as complement components C3, C4, and pregnancy zone protein (PZP).
It exhibits an extraordinary binding capacity for diverse ligands, enabling alpha-macroglobulins to act as humoral defense barriers against foreign peptides in plasma.
A2M interacts and captures virtually any proteinase, functioning as a panprotease inhibitor.
In Alzheimer’s disease (AD) brains, A2M has been localized to diffuse amyloid plaques, supporting its role in AD etiopathology.
