Peroxiredoxin (Prx)는 퍼옥시다아제(peroxidase) 계열의 단백질로, 세포 증식, 분화, 세포사멸과 관련이 있습니다. 약 50개의 단백질이 아미노산 서열의 상동성에 따라 분류되며, 활성 부위의 시스테인 잔기를 포함하고 티올 특이적 항산화 활성을 나타냅니다.
포유류 Prx는 6개의 멤버로 구성되어 있으며, typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, 1-Cys Prx로 구분됩니다. Prx VI는 1-Cys Prx에 속하며, 나머지 2-Cys Prx는 thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, NADPH를 이용한 TPx 활성(peroxidase activity)을 가집니다.
포유류 Prx의 분자량은 20–30 kDa이며, 세포 내 위치는 다양합니다: Prx I, II, VI는 세포질, Prx III는 미토콘드리아, Prx IV는 ER 및 분비계, Prx V는 퍼옥시좀, 미토콘드리아, 세포질에 존재합니다.
