Retinoic Acid (RA), 비타민 A의 활성 대사체는 증식 중인 전구세포(암세포 및 신경 전구세포 등)가 분화된 세포로 전환되는 과정을 조절하는 중요한 역할을 합니다. Retinoid X Receptors (RXRs) 계열(RXR α, β, γ)은 9-cis-RA에 결합하여 RA 수용체와 이합체를 형성함으로써 유전자 전사를 조절합니다. RA는 자궁경부암의 치료적 역할 가능성이 제시되었으며, 신경 발달 및 시냅스 가소성과 학습·기억 행동 조절에도 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
