Product Specific Information

This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes; also expressed by most tissue macrophages. In human, the epitope recognized by MEM-18 is located between amino acids 57–64.

Target Information

CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide (LPS) receptor and is released into serum as both secreted and enzymatically cleaved forms. CD14 binds LPS in a reaction catalyzed by LBP, an acute phase serum protein. Soluble sCD14 can distinguish structural variations among LPS molecules and plays a role in neutralizing serum LPS via lipoprotein particles. CD14 also binds apoptotic cells and participates in allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing yields multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform. CD14 dysfunction is associated with mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
