Blimp-1 (B lymphocyte-induced maturation protein) is a nuclear zinc-finger transcriptional repressor that plays an important role in terminal B-cell development. Expression of Blimp-1 drives terminal differentiation of BCL1 lymphoma cells into antibody-secreting plasma cells, increasing expression of the surface marker Syndecan-1.
Blimp-1 is also found during macrophage differentiation and in a subset of T-cells, suggesting a broader role in cellular homeostasis and differentiation.

Target Information

Blimp-1 (B lymphocyte maturation protein-1) is a nuclear protein containing five zinc fingers in its carboxy terminus. It functions as a transcriptional repressor essential for terminal differentiation of B lymphocytes and macrophages.
Blimp-1 is expressed in terminally differentiated epithelial cells, retinal neurons, and other lineage-specific cells. It is also implicated in repression of beta-interferon (IFN-beta) and c-myc gene expression.
