Target Information
Cadherins are a family of Ca²⁺-dependent adhesion molecules that mediate cell-cell binding, crucial for maintaining tissue structure and morphogenesis. Each cadherin contains a large extracellular domain with five homologous repeats, with the distal repeat contributing to binding specificity.
Cadherin-16 (Ksp-Cadherin) is a kidney-specific type I membrane protein expressed in the basolateral membrane of renal tubular epithelial cells. The human Cadherin-16 gene maps to chromosome 16q21–16q22, while the mouse gene is localized to distal chromosome 8.
