Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the keratin family, which includes intermediate filament proteins essential for the structural integrity of epithelial cells. Cytokeratins are divided into type I (acidic) and type II (basic) proteins that form heterotypic pairs. Cytokeratin 20 is a major structural protein in mature enterocytes and goblet cells, specifically expressed in gastric and intestinal mucosa. Type I cytokeratin genes are clustered on chromosome 17q12–q21.
