Target Information

Cas9 is an RNA-guided DNA endonuclease enzyme associated with the CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) adaptive immunity system in bacteria and genetic engineering.
The CRISPR-Cas9 system enables site-specific genome editing by using RNA to guide the nuclease to a desired DNA sequence. It can induce indel mutations, sequence insertions, deletions, or genomic rearrangements.
Cas9 may be derived from Streptococcus pyogenes (SpCas9) or Staphylococcus aureus (SaCas9). SaCas9 is smaller, efficient, and highly specific, recognizing NNGRRT PAM sequences and suitable for compact delivery systems such as AAV vectors.
