이 단백질들은 ESCRT-III (Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport III)의 구성요소로, 표면 수용체 단백질의 분해 및 내포소체(multivesicular body, MVB) 형성에 관여합니다.
일부 CHMP 단백질은 핵과 세포질/소포 분포를 모두 가지며, CHMP1A는 MVB 형성과 세포 주기 조절 모두에 필수적입니다.
