Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight from approximately 40 kDa to 68 kDa, with isoelectric pH between 4.9 and 7.8.
Each cytokeratin subtype (numbered 1–20) is expressed in specific epithelial types and correlates with the degree of differentiation. Cytokeratin expression patterns are widely used to distinguish epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies are valuable tools in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry, as well as in cytopathology and flow cytometric assays.
