HSP60 유전자는 chaperonin family에 속하며, 미토콘드리아 단백질 접힘과 조립에 필수적인 역할을 합니다. 이 단백질은 선천 면역계에서 신호 분자로 기능할 수 있으며, 두 개의 인접 유전자가 쌍방향 프로모터를 공유합니다. 해당 유전자와 관련된 여러 pseudogene이 보고되었으며, 동일한 단백질을 암호화하는 두 가지 전사 변이가 확인되었습니다. 돌연변이는 autosomal recessive spastic paraplegia 13과 관련이 있습니다.
