PRMT1은 단백질 아르기닌 N-메틸트랜스퍼레이스(PRMT) 패밀리에 속하는 효소로, 아르기닌 메틸화는 RNA 처리 및 수송, 수용체 매개 신호전달, 전사 조절 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여하는 비가역적 번역 후 변형입니다.
포유류 세포에서 최소 3가지 유형의 PRMT 효소가 확인되었으며, 핵 단백질, 세포주기 단백질, 신호전달 단백질, 세포사멸 단백질 등 여러 주요 단백질의 메틸화를 통해 필수적인 조절 기능을 수행합니다.
